Instead of repackaging previously-released bonus tracks, Songs of Death and Resurrection features stripped-down recordings of songs like "My Throat is an Open Grave" and "My Heartstrings Come Undone." And even though the growling guitars (and the growl from Ryan Clark's throat) are absent here, the band still manages to bring conviction and honesty to these songs... DC Talk Free At Last (Live) Release Date: February 26, 2021 Is there anything left to say about DC Talk 's 1992 album Free at Last that hasn't been said so many times before? Its status as maybe the greatest youth group fixture of the early 1990s is well-earned, with its relentlessly funky and positive hip-hop sound, soulful crooning from Michael Tait and Kevin (Max) Smith, and endlessly catchy raps from TobyMac himself. Though the highest heights of stardom for the trio would come with 1995's much more serious and reflective Jesus Freak , the Free at Last era was nothing but fun. The fun that translated to a live setting has never been properly captured; 2002's long awaited release of Free At Last: The Movie was more of a documentary (and an unfinished one at that) with the concert footage only a backdrop. While a true live album from this era would have been a nice addition to the discography, we all expected that status quo to remain indefinitely... until the sudden and unannounced release this month of Free at Last (Live) , which I suppose should best be described as a live album 27 years in the making... Pat Barrett Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly Release Date: February 26, 2021 Believe it or not, writing a "hit" song that resonates with a wide range of the listening public brings its own sort of unique struggle. For years, Rich Mullins bristled at being the guy who wrote "Awesome God," and Jars Of Clay have mentioned a few times in interviews how tired of playing "Flood" they have been. Other artists seem to embrace their hits. Michael W. Smith often says he's "never tired" of playing "Friends" and Mercy Me has made "I Can Only Imagine" the centerpiece of their concerts for more than twenty years. Pat Barrett 's "Good Good Father" (which he co-wrote with friend Toney Brown) is trending in the direction of those above-mentioned songs with its campfire melody and universal theme of the fatherhood of God, and it will be the song that his new songs will be measured against. But Barrett is more than a "one song" artist ["Build My Life" and "The Way (New Horizon)" are also excellent corporate worship...
